Riding a motorcycle is a usual thing for many foreigners in Bali, even for those who never ride a motorcycle in their own countries. Most of them rented a motorcycle in tourist areas, like Kuta, Seminyak and Ubud.
It is a concern of the Bali Police after they recorded four deaths foreign bikers in the first four months of this year.
Bali Police, Head of Public Information Adj.Sr.Comr. Sri Harmiti said, "up to last month, there were a total of 15 foreigners involved in a traffic accident."
"Four foreigners were killed in the accident, while 11 other were injured." She added.
This month, there was a fatal accident that claimed the life of an Australian, Adrian L Newton. His motorcycle hit the truck on Jl. Bypass Ngurah Rai. He suffered a severe head injury.
Denpasar traffic police chief Comr. I Nyoman Nuryana explained that many foreigners have got a motorcycle accident actually wearing a helmet, but they don't use it properly. " Most accidents with foreigners involved caused by themselves. They lose control and fall itself or hit something in front of them." He added.
Sanglah Hospital recorded that 95 foreigners died in 2015, up more than doubled from 49 foreigners who died in 2014. This Year, the figures also showed an increase in, 35 foreigners were killed in the first three months. Those are the tourists and expatriates who have lived on the island for many years.
