Police Vowed to Enforce Strict Rules on Sexual Violence


Jakarta, Friday May 27 2016

The police has asserted their readiness to implement the regulation in lieu of law (Perppu) on sexual violence against children that includes severe punishment for offenders.

"The police have taken a significant step in investigating cases of sexual offenses  involving children as victims," said National Police spokesman Boy Rafli Amar on Friday.

"Since 2014, the police have been assigned at least two female police officers in every sub-stations across the country, adding officers play an important role in dealing with the victims." Boy said.

"And they are expected to softent questions to child victims of sexual abuse," added Boy.

The Perppu issued earlier this week and set a minimum prison sentence of 10 years (and a maximum of 20 years) including an additional form of punishment, such as chemical castration and the use of electronic tags.
