Ahok lashed soccer fans for the violence and vandalism

Jakarta Governor, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok), has castigated the supporters of Jakarta Football Association (Persija) to damage the host stadium during a match between Persija and Sriwijaya FC (South Sumatra) on Friday evening, June 24.

"Why should Jakmania commit violent acts in every Persija lose the match? " Asked Ahok on Saturday, referring to the club's supporters association.

Governor has instructed the police to take firm action against those who have damaged the facility at the Bung Karno Stadium in Central Jakarta, also asked each school to act against any of their students were found to be involved.

"The violence continues to reoccur because the perpetrators were never brought to justice." Ahok added.

The match between Persija and Sriwijaya FC was cancelled in the 81st minute when an angry fans of Persija began storming the fence that separated them from the field after the goalkeeper failed to secure the ball.

The spark violence triggered by Persija fans who ran onto the field, followed by fellow supporters of Jakmania, attacked the separation fence in an attempt to access the field.

Ahok accused those people who are responsible for tarnishing the name of Persija. "If you love Persija, don't stoop to vandalism. By getting involved in this action, you don't support Persija, but destroying it. It's not funny anymore," He said.
