A family with five members have died of suffocation in Bogor, West Java, after a night of extended outages and caused the father turned on the generator which resulted in the house filled with carbon monoxide fumes.
The family was found by their grandmother, Wikinah, that came to wake them for sahur (predawn meal) on Saturday early morning. After knocking on doors but unanswered, she looked through the window and saw what just happened.
The victims were, Lamtono 34-year-old and his wife, Fatma, 29-year-old, their children, Marsya Laudya, 10-year-old and Tegar 7-year-old and their nephew, Alldryan Marcelino 2-year-old. The kids were found hugging each other in the bedroom, while the generator was still running in the kitchen.
"Three kids had been suffocated in the bedroom, while Lamtono was lying breathlessly in the living room, And the other victim was found in the same condition in the bathroom," said Gunungsindur Chief of police, Comm. Agus Suyandi.
Lamtono and his family were rushed to Hermina hospital in South Tangerang, but died on the way.
"They believed to died due to carbon monoxide poisoning emitted by the geneator inside the house, which has a poor air circulation because of lack of ventilation," Agus added.
