Two Pakistanis and one U.S. citizen on trial for drug smuggling

Two Pakistanis, one American and five Indonesian has been on trial for allegedly smuggling 97 kilograms of crystal meth, which locally known as sabu, smuggled through the 194 generators made in China.

This crime can be known by the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) on January 27, after being informed by interpol. The agency raided a warehouse and seized a generators that had just arrived, belonging to a company named Jepara Raya Internasional in Pekalongan village, Jepara, Central Java.

Prosecutor Edi Budiyanto accused the defendant violated Articles 112, 113 and 114 of the 2009 Narcotics Law. They allegedly hid drugs in piston engines, which departed from the port of Guangzhou, China to the port of Tanjung Mas in Semarang, Central Java.

"Crystal meth that had been smuggled has a total weight 97,15 kilograms," said Edi during the hearing in the District Court of Semarang.

Court spokesman, Tyas Annastacia, said the hearing was postponed since all three defendants were never accompanied by a translator.

"The Criminal Law Procedures Code (KUHAP) states that all trials must be executed in Indonesia," she said.
