Hindu Temple Worker Has Been Killed In Bangladesh

A Hindu priest was hacked to death on Friday early morning at a temple in Bangladesh, police and senior administrative officials said.

Shaymanonda Das, 45-year-old was preparing for morning prayers at a temple when he was attacked in front of a temple by three men on a motorcycle in Jhenaidah district headquarter, 300km (188 miles) south west from the capital Dhaka.

Police said he was hacked on the neck several times with machetes.

"The pattern of the killing is similar to a local militants, but we can not say more at this moment," said the chief inspector, Hasan Hafizur Rahman.

The Islamic state has claimed responsibility for several recent killings, although the government denies that the Sunni militant group has a presence in the country, by saying the local extremists were behind the attack.

More than 40 people were killed in attacks blamed on Islamic militants in Bangladesh since February 2013.

That includes secular bloggers, academics, gay rights activists and members of religious minorities.

Police said the motive behind the lattest attack was not clear.

Last month, a 70-year-old Hindu priest was hacked to death in a rice paddy field in the same district as Friday's attack.
